Case Study: Skills 4 All Leadership Course Impact
Abstract
This case study highlights the positive effects of the Skills 4 All Alternative Provision Leadership course on two students, Student A and Student B, who face significant educational barriers, including anxiety and ADHD. The course has fostered their engagement, academic progress, and well-being.
Pen Portrait
Student A and Student B, both with Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), struggle with mainstream education due to challenges like Emotionally Based School Avoidance (EBSA), anxiety, and fine motor skills delays. Despite their academic abilities in English and Math, they have found it difficult to access a full curriculum.
Outcomes
- Increased Independence: Student B now attends sessions independently, a significant step forward in confidence.
- Improved Engagement: Both students are more engaged in writing activities, with Student A showing interest in calligraphy and Student B becoming more aware of how handwriting affects his motivation.
- Boosted Confidence: Student A has regained confidence in his physical abilities, successfully riding his bike after a year.
- Reduced Anxiety: Both students show less anxiety before sessions and settle into learning more quickly.

Summary
The Skills 4 All Leadership course has made a notable difference in Student A and Student B’s lives, increasing their independence, engagement, and confidence while reducing anxiety. This programme is helping them bridge the gap back to mainstream education.

Working with the talented young students of a local school, based in the Greenacres area, we launched a unique STEM festival. The project promoted creativity, resilience and collaboration. The result? Through qualitative questionnaires conducted with staff and students, we saw an uptick in strong interest from young girls wanting to enter STEM related careers.

Robotic Skills 4 All
We worked with a group of young people in Gorton, Greater Manchester to help them develop their resilience, problem-solving and communication skills. They were given the task of creating codes that would direct a robot from one place to another, whilst performing a ‘WoW’ action. The students successfully made the robots talk, play sounds and display text using a lead screen. Although it was a challenge, young people shared their pride at being able to persevere even when it got really difficult.
STEM Workshop (Fir Bank)
At a local Oldham school, we taught young people about programming, including the skills required to be a programmer and the technical vocabulary they could expect to use. They were able to apply their knowledge of electric circuits and code to create an invention that served a purpose. Students recognised that the tech sector was an exciting space, tested out their creativity and developed the problem-solving and leadership skills they need to step into their future careers with confidence.
